The Monkey Orchestra, consisting of 21 figurines, is one of the most whimsical classics of Meissen Baroque. It was created in 1753 by Johann Joachim Kaendler, and revised in 1765/66 together with the modeller Peter Reinicke. In this piece, Kaendler humorously encodes an anti-feudal attitude that turns to the rational, free citizen. His little monkeys are caricatures of the palace residents. They behave just like their human counterparts and their guests do: they sing, play a variety of instruments, dance, hunt or have fun skating on a frozen lake. The drawings of these extravagant musicians have found their consecration to Meissen and have clearly served the artist Johann Joachim Kaendler (1706-1775) as a starting material for his porcelain ensemble: little monkeys painted in rococo style and making music with great abandonment under the guidance of a conductor greedy for gestures. Flautist. Dimensions: h 14,5 cm Hand painted Code: 900300-60011
